The WestSide Grocery, which recently underwent a massive renovation, focuses on local, healthy and delicious produce, meat, seafood, dairy and more, much of which you won’t find elsewhere on the Eastern Shore. The grocery offers items made by local hands and raised on local lands for Gulf Coast families looking to get back to a simpler way of eating. We hope to reduce the number of steps from farm to your table and help families eat what is freshest and in season at any given time.

Building on the established relationships the Windmill Market has had with area farmers, the new Grocery buys direct from local dairies, farmers, bakers, millers, cattleman, fisherman, and canners. Eating locally is not only good for our bodies- it is good for the environment by reducing the distance our food has to travel to market. We also think developing a relationship with the origins of our food is good for the spirit and is just plain fun!

There are so many reasons that huge portions of American consumers are switching to eating locally. Local food is less susceptible to harmful contamination during transportation. Locally grown produce is picked at the peak of ripeness because it does not have to travel long distances, and so is tastes better than produce picked before ripening and then trucked across country or brought in from South America. And whatever is fresh and in season always tastes best.

The Grocery now offers all categories one might seek when doing their weekly shopping, and hopes that many families can now prepare all their meals from local and healthy ingredients using its products. In the interest of meeting the schedules of our busy customers, the Grocery is now open 7 days a week (Mon- Sat 10 AM – 4 PM, Sun noon – 4 PM). The owners of the Windmill Market, Mac and Gina Walcott, and the new manager Maggie Lacey, as well some other smiling faces, are here every day to assist you with your grocery needs!
